Is there really a cheapest day to book flights?
The famous Tuesday-at-midnight trick is a fossil from when airlines uploaded fares in weekly batches. Pricing is now continuous and algorithmic, and Google Flights' own analysis of billions of fares found the day you book changes prices by a rounding error, low single digits at best.
What measurably matters is when you fly and how far ahead you commit. Midweek departures, Tuesday and Wednesday, run meaningfully cheaper than Friday and Sunday. The sweet spot for booking domestic trips is roughly one to three months before departure, and two to eight months for international, with prices climbing steeply inside three weeks as business travelers take over the cabin.
The professional move is outsourcing vigilance: set fare alerts on Google Flights for your route, let the algorithm watch the algorithm, and book when the alert fires below the route's typical range.
The Tuesday-booking trick is dead; fares reprice constantly by algorithm. What works: book domestic 1 to 3 months out, international 2 to 8, fly midweek, and set a price alert instead of guessing.
