How do you answer the greatest weakness question?

Give a real weakness that is not fatal to the job, then spend most of your answer on the system you built to manage it. The formula: honest flaw, concrete example, specific fix, evidence of progress. For instance: early feedback said your presentations buried the lead, so you now write the summary slide first and rehearse the open, and your last three reviews flagged communication as a strength.

Retire the classics. I am a perfectionist and I work too hard are recognized dodges, and interviewers score the evasion, not the trait. Equally bad is a genuine disqualifier: do not tell a deadline-driven employer you struggle with deadlines.

What the question measures is self-awareness and coachability, whether you can see yourself clearly and act on feedback, because that predicts how you will absorb criticism on the job. Answering honestly is not a trap; it is the demonstration.
