How often should you wash your sheets?
Once a week is the dermatologist-endorsed standard, and every two weeks is the defensible outer limit. The case is unglamorous: you spend roughly 50 hours a week in bed shedding skin cells, sweat, and oils, which feed dust mites, whose droppings are a major indoor allergen. Surveys consistently find a large share of Americans stretching to three or four weeks, so if that is you, you have company, just not a recommendation.
Wash hot, 130 degrees Fahrenheit or the sanitize cycle, to actually kill mites, and go weekly-or-better during illness, allergy season, if pets share the bed, or if you sleep unshowered after workouts.
If the full ritual is too much, prioritize pillowcases: they collect the most oil and contact your face all night, and swapping them twice a week is the single best return for acne-prone skin.
Once a week is the standard, two weeks is the honest ceiling. You shed skin cells and sweat nightly, and dust mites throw a banquet. Pillowcases matter most for your skin.
