How do you unclog a drain?
Start with the tool that actually works: a plastic drain snake or zip-it strip, a few dollars at any hardware store. Feed it down, twist, pull, and prepare for what comes up, because bathroom clogs are almost always hair bound with soap scum sitting a few inches down. This solves the majority of slow sinks and showers in minutes.
The baking soda and vinegar volcano is satisfying theater with weak results; the fizz neutralizes itself almost immediately. Boiling water can help flush grease in a kitchen line (skip it if you have PVC pipes and use very hot tap water instead), and a proper cup plunger with a wet seal is the second-best tool for a full blockage.
Chemical drain cleaners are the last resort that should usually be no resort: they damage older pipes with repeated use and turn the water sitting in a still-clogged drain caustic for whoever works on it next, including you.
Skip the baking-soda volcano; it mostly fizzes for show. A $5 plastic drain snake pulls out the hair clog in two minutes. Save chemical cleaners for never.
