Why is my internet so slow?
Diagnose before blaming anyone. Run a speed test on a device plugged directly into the router with an ethernet cable, then run it again on Wi-Fi in the room where things feel slow. If wired is fast and Wi-Fi is not, the problem lives in your house. If both are slow, it is your plan or your provider.
For the Wi-Fi case: routers hate closets, cabinets, and floors. Put yours central and elevated, restart it, and if it is more than five or so years old, replace it; an aging router quietly caps a fast plan. Distant rooms may need a mesh system rather than a stronger prayer.
For the provider case: a modem restart fixes a surprising share of problems, evening slowdowns suggest neighborhood congestion, and speeds consistently below what you pay for are worth a support call with your speed-test screenshots ready.
Run a speed test wired and on Wi-Fi. If wired is fast, the problem is your router's placement or age. If both are slow, restart the modem, and if that fails, the problem is your provider.
